Building Surveying and Spatial Capabilities
It is my pleasure to introduce Open Forum’s featured forum topic for the month of April 2010, in collaboration with the Office of the Surveyor General NSW, “Building Surveying and Spatial Capabilities”.
This online event aligns with a premier event for New South Wales. This month, from April 11 – 16, we are hosting the XXIV FIG (Fédération International des Géomètres) Congress here in Sydney!
Founded in Paris in 1878, FIG is a UN-recognised non-government organisation (NGO), representing surveyors, and related land management professionals, from more than 100 countries. Through research and discussion and development, this international forum seeks to promote professional practice and standards and enhance the global standing of the surveying profession through both education and practice, increase political relations both at national and international level and facilitate economic, social and environmental sustainability through democratic means.
This year’s event brings together over 800 presentations, 150 technical sessions and more than 1800 delegates participating from around the world, to discuss a range of topics relating to surveying and spatial information and a number of related land management issues.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to enjoy Sydney and its many attractions.
The focus of this Congress is “Facing the Challenge – Building the Capacity”. During the course of the congress we will be hearing from a number of international speakers on a range of issues from policy and governance to climate change and marine administration to building organisational capacity. The quality of speakers and the range of topics reflect the significant contribution made by professionals in this area in solving the complex issues facing us as a world community.
We hope that you will join us online to discuss surveying and spatial information.
Throughout April 2010 Open Forum will be providing this online space for the speakers and delegates in this online discussion .
