Microsoft Politics & Technology Forum 2011 logoThe theme for Microsoft Australia’s 3rd Politics and Technology Forum is Openness and Transparency in Politics.

Keynote speaker is Iain Dale.  Iain stood as a Conservative candidate at the last UK election and was Chief of Staff to the Rt Hon David Davis MP in the 2005 Conservative Party leadership election.

He is a former political lobbyist, financial journalist and publisher and was the founder of Politico’s Bookstore. He presents the weeknight evening show on LBC 97.3 Radio. He is one of Britain’s leading political commentators, appearing regularly on TV and radio. Iain is best known for his political blog, Iain Dale’s Diary and football blog, West Ham Till I Die. He is a contributing editor and columnist for GQ Magazine, writes for the Daily Telegraph and a fortnightly diary for the Eastern Daily Press.

He was the chief anchor of Britain’s first political internet TV channel, 18 Doughty Street.com. He appears regularly as a political pundit on Sky News, the BBC News Channel, Newsnight, Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live. He is the publisher of the monthly magazine, Total Politics and the author or editor of more than twenty books. He is managing director of Britain’s premier political book publisher, Biteback Publishing.

Ian will also participate in a panel discussion of distinguished speakers including Senator Kate Lundy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister; Joe Hockey MP, Shadow Treasurer; Stilgherrian; and Microsoft’s Gianpaolo Carraro. The event MC is Mark Pesce.

It should be an interesting look into the different relationships between polticis and technology in Australia vs the UK.

Open Forum will be featuring blogs from some of the speakers in the lead-up to the event, as well as sharing some of the highlights from the day afterwards.

This is a half-day event. On the day please arrive to grab your nametag and a coffee from 8:30am, the forum will begin at 9am and conclude 11:15am when morning tea will be served, providing a chance to catch-up and chat with other participants.
