GAP Summit to debate intergenerational issues at NSW Parliament House

| November 3, 2025

This week, Global Access Partners is convening senior representatives from business, government, academia and the nonprofit sector at NSW Parliament House to address one of Australia’s most pressing long-term challenges – the economic, social and policy implications of shifting demographics and increasing longevity.

Held in the NSW Legislative Assembly Chamber, the 2025 GAP Intergenerational Summit will focus on three critical areas – the macroeconomic and workforce implications of Australia’s ageing population; strategies to build intergenerational wealth, equity and financial sustainability; and the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on intergenerational workforce dynamics.

Since 2010, GAP Summits, hosted by the independent non-profit institute for active policy Global Access Partners, have become an important feature of Australia’s policy landscape. Known for their unique format and networking opportunities, these invitation-only forums promote practical, action-oriented discussions under the Chatham House rule.  Participants engage in Second Track deliberations, raising ideas that are then developed by GAP multidisciplinary taskforces through the Second Track process of multistakeholder engagement and collaboration.

Australia’s demographic shift is reshaping economic structures, workforce participation, social services and democratic engagement. The 2025 GAP Intergenerational Summit will bring together diverse perspectives to examine the future of Australia’s longevity economy and the policy frameworks needed to sustain prosperity across generations.

It will discuss a range of topics, including intergenerational wealth transfers, financial security and sustainable retirement policies, as well as workforce adaptation and skills development to support intergenerational participation and productivity.

Given the growing public discussion about the impact of artificial intelligence, participants will also debate the tmpact of automation and AI on the intergenerational workforce, including improved collaboration and ethical, age-inclusive AI practices.

Finally, the Summit will discuss the need for better integration between social and financial planning across personal, institutional and governmental levels, as well as the intersection of economic security and democratic engagement.

The Summit will build on the work and outcomes of GAP’s Second Track advisories, taskforces and standing committees. Participants will gain access to these insights and play a direct role in shaping any projects, taskforces and policy initiatives that will emerge during the discussion.
