    The girl effect: girl + school + cow > cows > buisness > $ > clean H20 > social change > stronger economy = better world!

On the 8 March 2011 we will be celebrating the centennary of International Women’s Day – a good occasion to remind us of the plight of girls around the world.

    Did you realise that currently:

    • Women work two-thirds of the world’s working hours, produce half the world’s food, and yet earn only 10 % of the world’s income and own less than 1% of the world’s property?
    • Women make up 70% of the worlds 1.3 billion people who live in poverty?
    • Women over the age of 15 in the least developed countries are twice as likely to be illiterate than men.

The solution? Social investment in girls.

  • Have your say – EFTPOS to decide whether to increase fees for Australian small business

    Jost Stollmann     |      March 2, 2011

A call for small retailers to respond to proposed changes to EFTPOS regulation.

EFTPOS Australia Payments Limited (EPAL) announced in its February newsletter that this month the EPAL Board has important decisions to make, particularly with regard to EFTPOS interchange fees. In the attached media release, Tyro alerts Australian merchants and consumers to the impact of higher EFTPOS fees and gives the fact that each Australian retailer ought to know.

Australia’s 1.2 million small businesses could be hit with significant bank fee increases, under potential changes being considered to EFTPOS fees and charges. According to the Reserve Bank of Australia, nearly 2 billion EFTPOS debit card transactions occurred in Australia last year. Every cent increase to EFTPOS transaction fees by issuer banks potentially translates into additional revenues of approximately $20 million for those banks.
