Privacy and Location Based Information

 

Spatial information and privacy, is it really an issue? 

Often the collection of spatial information can be, it would seem very impersonal. High level photography, satellite imagery, LiDAR. However location also relates to address and property related information and, through social media, your personal location should you chose to reveal it.

Location Based Services of the Future

 

As with many areas of online service delivery, spatial information is becoming an increasingly important aspect of our daily lives. 

Where once we reached for the street map atlas, now we have in-car, voice-mediated, global positioning systems guiding us to our destination.  This is one area where the move away from paper based services to online technology has certainly moved ahead of the game as location based services are commonly provided via computers, mobile telephones and PDA deices.

Spatial Information has a very bright future

The "institutional" barriers and structural failures have hampered the wider understanding and adoption of spatial information across the public and private sectors, and that is one of the greatest challenges we need to address.
