The Sydney Writers’ Festival 2015 takes place from 18 to 24 May. It is an annual literary festival that includes author talks, conversations, film screenings, panels, readings, workshops and various events for children. This year’s theme is ‘How to live?’

More than 400 authors are participating. Highlights include Julia Gillard, James Patterson, Alan Cumming, Richard Flanagan and Helen Garner. Nights at the Wharf will host events like writers’ cocktails, live music, the Late Night Salon series and the Night of the Nerds. In the Word Lounge prose writers and poets will test their unpublished drafts on an audience.

The Sydney Writers’ Festival began in January 1997, with most events initially held at the State Library of New South Wales. Today the festival mainly takes place in Walsh Bay, but there are also events all across the city, suburban Sydney and regional NSW. This year the majority of workshops will be held at a new venue, Science House, NYU Sydney.
