Made to measure holidays
Too often there is a one size fits all approach to travel. Peter Fritz explains his vision for made to measure holidays.
I believe in a world which is ruled by mass production for individual taste where you have the ability to be able to choose to customise your experience to suit your life.
I think travel is lagging behind in this area. You board a plane often akin to herded cattle and are given little choice or variety throughout your flight.
I am proposing to establish a new kind of experience, an internet service which allows individuals to tailor make their own trips. Would you like to go on a three day adventure to the Pyrenees, climbing the mountains and staying in small hotels? Through our service, a guide would be available to lead as few as a party of one, a family or a small group of friends.
In same way as there are networks of hotels we will have a network of guides who provide a customised service. Many of them would not be associated with a company but rather, they would be freelancing.
Wouldn’t it be a nicer experience if someone was met by a guide with a car? A person who has knowledge of the region and has prepared a personal trip schedule based on discussions in the lead up to the trip. It’s a service that doesn’t cost an arm or a leg and is still within one’s budget. Effectively it is a guided tour for you, rather than for the masses.
I see this being available right around the world, made to measure holidays that take into account the capabilities of the participant, likes and dislikes as well as budget. It opens you up to experiences without the stress and allows you to pick and choose what you want to do.
I’m trying to make this dream a reality with my friend Pierre Tonnon, a guide and ski instructor in France. He’s been our guide for the last 12 years and we have done everything from skiing to talking summer walks. We’ve done cooking classes at Michelin star restaurants and even been canyoning in the mountains. Each trip has been unique and exciting. Is this how you’d like to travel in the future?

Tunamaya Resort
Flying in to Tioman Island proved to be the best decision I made for the family as the kids were all excited to be in a turbo-prop plane and we could see Tioman for all its glory as we approached to land. As I had made prior arrangement, the resort staff from Tunamaya were on hand to welcome us and transfer us by ferry. After a 20 minute boat ride, the magnificent Nenek Semukuk mountain was seen with its tip covered with clouds, giving it a mystical look. After checking in and being brought to our Villa, the kids could not wait to jump into the sea as the beach was just right in front. We made a compromise to try the infinity pool after their time in the sea as I wanted to just relax by the pool with a good book. There is much to do at the resort such as snorkelling, diving, hiking and island hopping. The food is great and the service staff truly friendly and helpful as my husband misplaced his watch after his swim and they managed to recover it from the bottom of the pool! If you ever plan to have a holiday in idyllic Tioman, then I highly recommend staying at Tunamaya Beach and Spa Resort (www.tunamayaresort.com). It’ll be a holiday you’ll remember for a long-long time.
