Celebrate NAIDOC week

NAIDOC Week

It’s NAIDOC week from 3 to 10 July 2016. NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The week is celebrated in the Indigenous communities, government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces.

This year’s theme is Songlines: The living narrative of our nation. Songlines have been passed down for thousands of years and are central to the existence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance and art. Sonlines carry significant spiritual and cultural connection to knowledge, customs, ceremony and Lore of many Aboriginal nations and Torres Strait Islander language groups.

To learn more about NAIDOC’s theme, its history, NAIDOC awards, and to find an event near you, please see the official NAIDOC website.
