Melbourne Cup Carnival
On Tuesday, the 4th November, thousands of people will flock to the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne again for ‘the race that stops a nation’.
Melbourne Cup Carnival is Australia’s best known horse racing event held on the first Tuesday of November every year. It is now in its 154th year.
The Melbourne Cup Carnival is an opportunity to have a bet, dress up, see and be seen. There are fashion parades on the field, and marquees are set up for VIP guests with local, national and international celebrities.
Many will watch local horseraces live or follow the main event on television or the internet. It is an annual public holiday in the state of Victoria, and offices across Australia stop work close to the time of the main race at 3pm on Melbourne Cup Day.
