Mother’s Day Classic
Every year on Mother’s Day, (12 May 2013) the Mother’s Day Classic walk or run raises money for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) research programs and awareness of breast cancer in the community.
It was established in 1998, starting from modest beginnings as a walk in the park. It has since grown into a major national community event.
Last year, 125,000 people across Australia ran or walked in a Mother’s Day Classic event in ten cities and 54 regional locations. Participants and fundraisers raised $4 million for National Breast Cancer Foundation research programs – the highest amount of funds in the event’s fifteen year history.
Participation in the city events ranges from 2,500 in Hobart to 44,000 in Melbourne. Regional walk in the park events range from 65 people to 4,000 people.
